Chilean Miners Return Home

The 33 Chilean men that were trapped in the mine finally got rescued after being stuck in the mine for over 2 months. Right now they are in the hospital getting monitored and seeing if they are really alright. Two have already been let out and the rest should be let out soon. People think that they will have psychological problems in the future but the medical officer doesn't think so because they had a big support team on the outside. Other people think the miners will have psychological problems for a long time. The miners have decided to keep quiet about what happened when they were trapped.

I'm glad that the miners are finally out because now they can go and spend some time with their families. I bet it was really had on them being away from their families for so long. I'm actually quite amazed that they don't seem to have any really big problems because they were 600 meters underground. To be honest I think that they will be having a lot of psychological problems after. Being in a mine for over 2 months is going to leave anyone with psychological problems, it doesn't matter how much support they had on the outside. I think the people of Chile were really responsible when this happened because they were trying to get the people out and offering them assistance every single day. What I don't understand is why they took so long to get the miners out, they should have done the "complex rescue effort" much sooner. But then again that's just my opinion and maybe they wanted to try other much safer rescue routes before trying the one that worked in the end. I think that the men splitting all the money they get from the media and stuff, is a really great idea and it shows how much they all care about each other.

Global: Everyone in the world heard about it and saw it on the news. And it might happen to other mining companies around the world.
National: People in Canada heard about it. And Canada also has mining companies.
Regional: There's Chilean people in Alberta that might have known the person in the mine or were related to that person. Alberta has mining companies too.
Local: The news were showing it so people around Calgary found out and there's Chilean people in Calgary.

Great job Blanca!

Facebook Zuckerberg Donation

The Facebook creator has decided to donate $100M to public schools in Newark, N.J. He told Oprah Winfrey on Friday that he picked Newark "because I believe in these guys". He made the announcement before the movie The Social Network came out, because it shows Zuckerberg as a bad guy. He picked Newark because the schools there have been having really low test scores and a low graduating number.

So I personally think that he's doing it so that when people see the movie they won't think that he's a bad guy. He wants the world to still think of him as a good smart guy I guess. I think he also picked Newark because their schools are not that great so he wants to seem even nicer than what he is. I actually just think that he's trying to get good publicity before the movie comes out because when the movie comes out then everyone will know pretty much the whole story. I kind of think that it's good that he's donating $100M to public schools that need the money, but it's quite obvious why he's doing it. Like if he had done it, like, a long time before then it would be more believable that he was helping the people because he truly wanted to. Now it just seems like he's doing it so that people think he's nice and don't start hating him once The Social Network comes out.

Teacher Feedback:
Blanca this is a great summery, but remember to tell me when this is or has happened! Interesting perspective!

Inside the News with Marie.

French Revolution: Good or Bad?

These are dark times. The French Revolution is just starting, and everyone is starting to fight. The First, Second and Third Estates have decided to talk and tell us how life is like for them at these dark times. “I do not like the way the commoners are wanting to be equal to us. It has always been like this. God has always wanted it to be like this so they should respect the wishes of God,” replies Reverend Jacques, 30, when asked about how he felt that the Third Estate wanted to have a Republic. “I do not think that they suffer a lot, they have as much freedom as us, they just don’t have enough money,” Reverend Jacques answered to the question ‘What do you think the current situation is like for the Third Estate’. He has kind of refused to answer the question, ‘Do you believe that God wants this change? Is that why he has planted the idea into his creations’ head?’.
The Second Estate was easier to interview; they answered every question. “I do not believe that they need bread to live,” Francois Raveou, 20, responded when asked how he felt about the uproar that has just happened last week with the 60, 000 people taking King Louis to Paris. “They can just plant some vegetables or something better for them. They’re not as poor as they make everyone think.” Raveou surprising answer might cause a bigger uproar than he thinks. He proceeded to tell us that the Third Estate have always faked being poor in order to get the King to help them, but the King is too smart and knows the truth so he has refused to help them. “Their lies about being poor is the reason why the King has raised their taxes.”
A commoner volunteered to be interviewed. He wanted everyone to know the whole story about everything that is happening. “It’s their fault. If they just worked like us for a day they would realize that change would be good.” Irvil Langi , 27, responded with a very wise answer. “They have to realize that we make up about 90,% of the people in France, if we want change we will get it.” ‘Were you with the 60, 000 people that marched King Louis back to Paris?’. “Yes, I was in there, the King looked like a little kid, all scared and lost. He was finally realizing how powerful we are. It was a good feeling.” Langi smiles as he says this. ‘So you enjoy fighting back and giving power back to the people who deserve it?’. “It is the best feeling in the world, once this is over, I’m going to become an Aristocrat, because with the new government, it won’t matter what you are when you’re born you will have the right to be something else if you want.”
Interviewing these people has really opened a lot of eyes. Now we know the way everyone feels about the French Revolution and the changes that are going to happen once the King accepts the wishes of the commoners. We don't know what the outcome will be, but we do know that once this is all over, you will barely recognize France.

Marijuana-laced ice cream hits shelves

Creme de Canna, dubbed High Scream, sold in California

I read the Marijuana article. I think it affects us on a Global level because people from other place will probably want to do the same and they will try to if they want to enough. National: it affects Canada because Canada is influenced a lot by the U.S. so if the government doesn't want to then they have to make sure that the people of Canada don't start saying that they want to like, make it legal in Canada or something. So they would make it illegal... I guess. Uh. Regional, it affects us because Alberta is like right by the U.S., so it Canada makes the ice cream illegal here, then people might get mad and try to sneak it in. Global, it affects us because Calgary is choosing to make it public so everyone in the area knows it. So people in the area will want to have the ice cream.

I personally think it's just... a bad idea. Because people who just want marijuana, will buy it, even though it's meant for medical marijuana. And people will be spending $15 on it... but I guess that for the person who came up with it, it's a good idea.
